Today I rediscovered how much troublesome it is to be a teenager! All of a sudden you grow up to the society, people around expect you to be rational, logical, mannered… blah blah blah… the never ending list. You yourself are confused… am I already grown up? Or am I in the process of being grown up? You do still hold your childish desires, yet you feel the responsibility the society has bestowed upon you.

Sometimes you are bloody pissed off with this weird life. You show off your anger and disappointment. Then your actions are judged as if they are done by an adult individual, you start wondering when did I actually join the elite adult group (the irony is you’ve always wanted to be a part of that when you’re a kid)?

You feel neglected because you don’t get the attention you used to get … as a kid in those fights with your younger or elder siblings, the biasness of the judgements of your parents towards you, yeah, you used to enjoy them. You cant demand strawberry ice cream or red Ferrari anymore, yet you feel you never wanted them more. You want to sit in your dad’s lap (when I was kid I remember asking dad to let me sleep in his pouch); you wish to rest your head in your mom’s arms. But you can’t anymore!!!

As a grown up, which you denounced thus far, you want freedom, respect and privacy. Alas! Nobody seems to bother about them; they still think you’re the kid you used to be and too Naïve. Well, that’s so unjust; you don’t give me my childish privileges anymore then give me the rights I should have as an adult. Suddenly you remember the Rabindranath line you read couple of days back in our textbook- “…Tero-chouddo bochor er cheler moto prithibite balai ar nai…(Nothing is more problematic then the thirteen-fourteen)

You re-realize the meaning of your life…

Control Panel

Deciding what is the best for people and forcing that is one of the very first characteristics of any authoritative regime. Another feature is they rarely trust people without uniform.

Couple of days back my brother was reading the newspaper. He was commenting on a news about telecommunication sector. Most probably the chairman of BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Board) said, no more mobile phone operator will be given license, when someone asked, “Why?” He answered,” There are already many operators, new operator wont be able to make profit.” Well, this is one of the funniest logic I’ve ever heard. Is it a job of government to determine whether a business has a potential to make profit or not? In this country, whoever comes to power becomes stupid!!!

Yesterday, another news came… BTRC decided to set up certain regulations for different mobile operators… BTRC decided call rate can neither be less than Tk 0.25/min nor greater than Tk 2.00/min… there was a whole bunch of rules… good… great… now the government decides the call rate… tomorrow she will decide another…

Today’s news… Some Major General was appointed as the head of BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board.) No comments

National Discipline

National Descipline

As usual, today we (Me, Mejho & Abdullah) went to Baitul Mukarram, the National Mosque for Jummah prayer.  Abdullah enjoys being there, his joy is proportional to the height we had to climb Image. (In general, we have to sit at 2nd floor.)

Nothing new, but I thought I could bring some facts to light.

As a nation, we were never disciplined. We don’t need another testimonial… Today the gathering was larger than previous weeks, may be some organizations had demonstration after the prayer. Whatever, lets move to the point. As a national mosque, Baitul Mukarram is quite large, four storied completely, there are additional arrangements for prayer. The entrance is splendid as well. But the problem is with the people. Those who come early start to fill the entrance instead of going to upstairs. So what happens at the end is there is a huge crowd, people coming from all the directions, but there is hardly space for entering.

I was in Saudi Arabia, we used to go to Mekkah and Medinah weekly. Baitul Mukkaram is a baby compared to gathering at Masjid Ul Haraam. But people are disciplined or the authority was strict. There were defined place for prayer, defined space for walking. We do also have same sort of classification, but we are nonsense. At Masjid Ul Haraam, when Iqamat was announced, people also stood at the walking path, since there can be no gaps between devotees at the time of prayer. It’s ok if u block the walking space at prayer time, since there is no need to walk through. But problem arises when you block the path when people has to use.

Another fact is, as a national mosque Baitul Mukarram should have been more clean. Dirt increases with height. At the fourth floor, if Baitul Mukarram wasn’t a mosque, none would ever have thought about walking in bare feet.

Should have taken my mobile, chobi tule rakha jeto.

We are a strange nation, aren’t we?

NB: Iquamat is an Arabic word, it describes the call for prayer by Muajjin. Picture courtesy: Banglapedia

From Her’s world…

I was going through different blogs from Bangladesh (or Bangladeshi people.) Mejho went to Chittagong, so virtually I had the whole day to spend in front of pc (there was none to share). That’s what I did actually.

Blog is a place from where you can learn different sort of ideas and things… most importantly about human mind. Human psychology has always fascinated me.

So what were the featured blog topics? (The order is roughly according to frequency.)

1. Friendship

2. Confusion

3. Day to day events

4. Love

More or less as expected. But I think love should have got better ranking. Image

There were lots of interesting pages, some of them I’d added as friend or favourites, or put comment on fantastic blog. Queen of Rain had a great blog-post. She tried to bring front a real situation, an unfortunate attitude in our society.

Basically there were two parts of her post. One is the inequality a girl faces in attitude towards her from the society. The other is, “In general, man regards woman is a counterpart who should always be dominated and suppressed rather than being a complement.” May be some would prefer to deny, some would like to say it’s exaggeration. I’d be happy if it was so. But that’s real scenery.

Most of the male don’t regard woman even as human. Look around, you’ll find lots of examples. They don’t bother what women think. It’s like they are god gifted robots ready to take orders (being extreme).

There was a line in Queen of Rain’s blog stating, most of the boys are ready to accept intelligent and girls with personality as their friends, but not as girlfriends or wife. She is right. When you want to dominate someone, then you would always like to have someone who can be dominated.

I’d a comment on her blog accusing our educational system. My best friend thought that’s not the major cause. May be not the only one, but education system is one of the important medium for combating this. Education system should make the students critical about what they see around. (To be honest, I don’t think there is even a distant possibility for Bangladeshi education system to achieve that level.)

Today morning Tanaeem and I had a discussion on this. Tanaeem thought the change should come from girls. Boys will never understand their situation. Girls should come up and raise their voice. They should stop taking advantage of being girl. The male dominated society is bribing their female counterparts by giving some advantage which is actually disgraceful for them. Like having another line for females in bank or reserved women seats in Jatya Sangsad…… I think the list will be quite long. You can never expect to be treated as an equal entity when you yourself don’t think you as equal.

Another think which I thought important is the segregation of boys and girls at the critical age when personality develops. Since there is the segregation, boys get the traditional view (hajar bochorer chintadhara). Once you have something set in the mind, it’s hard to change. It acts like colour glass. I think you can easily notice the fact from the ongoing debate in comments section of Queen’s post.

If they are given the chance to interact with each other, they will see the other counterpart isn’t that different. They are just human beings with own mind like them.

I think many of my readers wont like my view; they may consider me as feminist. At least I am expecting vehement reaction from half ….

Try to look the world goingfrom a Her’s position. Just be honest to yourself.
